Herero is a deeply personal project that brings Namibia’s hidden history - Germany’s first genocide and South Africa’s unspoken apartheid - into urgent global conversation, inviting reflection on how truth-telling and cultural memory are essential to healing today.
We’ve received initial support from the Canada Council for the Arts and are now fiscally sponsored by the International Documentary Association, which means all U.S. donations are tax-deductible.
We’re currently raising funds for a pivotal shoot in Namibia this October, including coverage of the annual genocide commemoration and an ongoing court case related to reparations.
Donations will go toward:
Hiring the local production company
Paying our crew (cinematographer, sound recordist, location manager)
Covering travel, lodging, logistics
Cinema-grade camera and sound equipment
And offering honoraria to the Katuuo family
Our goal is to raise $40,000 to complete this phase and produce a 10-minute reel to secure full production and post-production financing. See our pitch video, here, for more details.
Every contribution helps - and we’re so grateful.
